India Begins Preparation for Theatre Command Structure as CDS General NS Raja Subramani Pushes Ahead with Military Reform
India has begun preparations for the Theatre Command structure under CDS General NS Raja Subramani, aiming to integrate the Army, Navy, and Air Force for better coordination during conflicts. The move follows earlier discussions initiated during General Bipin Rawat’s tenure and could place India among the world's leading military powers with unified command systems.
The Theatre Command system is aimed at improving coordination and operational efficiency among the Army, Navy, and Air Force during times of conflict. The restructuring is expected to ensure better synergy between the three services and strengthen India's military preparedness.
The concept of Theatre Commands was first discussed during the tenure of India's first CDS, General Bipin Rawat. The initiative has now gained fresh momentum under CDS General NS Raja Subramani, who is expected to meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh by the end of this month.
The meeting is likely to focus on seeking approval for the proposed Theatre Command structure. A final decision from the Defence Ministry would mark a significant step towards reorganising India's military command system.
At present, the armed forces of the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, and France operate under Theatre Command structures. With this transformation, India is expected to move closer to joining the group of nations with integrated military command systems, enhancing coordination and strategic capability during future security challenges.
